Request a bridge

Ask for help finding common ground on something.

A bridge request is you asking someone to write something that brings two sides together. It's a simple way to point the community at a split you'd like to see healed, without doing all the work yourself.

Where to find it: Open the ⋯ menu on a post or comment and pick Bridge this…, or open the Bridges page and click Request a bridge.

Making a request

  1. Add the viewpoints you want bridged. You can describe them or point to real posts.
  2. Write the topic: a short line saying what needs bringing together.
  3. Choose who it goes to. Send it to one person, or leave it open so anyone can answer. An open request is called a bounty.
  4. Submit it. It then shows up on the Bridges page.

A request is an invitation, not a promise. Whether the reply ends up acting as a bridge for anyone depends on how people vote on it. The math decides, not the request. You can read more in What is a bridge?

You'll get a heads up

When someone answers your request, UpTrust tells you. You'll also hear from us when a comment you wrote bridges two viewpoints.

Once a request is open, others can find it in the marketplace and help it along.
