Mention someone

Tag a person in a post or comment with @.

A mention is a way to tag a person right inside your text. It links to their profile and lets them know you're talking to them, so the right people see what you wrote.

Where to find it: Use the @ sign while writing any post or comment.

Tag a person

  1. Start writing a post or comment.
  2. Type @ and a few letters of their name. A short list of matching people appears; pick the right one and we insert the link for you.
  3. Finish your sentence and post as usual.

Once you post, the name turns into a link to that person's profile, and they get a notification telling them you mentioned them.

Pick from the list

Choosing someone from the picker is the sure way to get the right profile. If you type a name by hand and the link does not turn purple after you post, open the list again and pick them, or check their exact name on the People page.

Mentioning is a kind way to bring someone into a conversation you think they'll care about. For more on talking with people directly, see Direct messages.
