Confusion navigating the conversation tree
"Collapse all replies" "Collapse to 2 immediate replies" "Expand 1 top-level comments" "Expand all 2 comments" All make sense if I think about them, but I have to really pause and think about them and the result is I don’t use them and they just jumble up the screen.... How much control do we have over the relative times
There are numerous posts on this across the internet, but by and large the central design of these does not mimic what humans expect. For instance, 2 weeks ago is anywhere from 7.00000001 to 14 days.... It’s a little dangerous though! It’s biased in the user’s favor, and might tell you something is a good idea even if it isn’t (RLHF biases towards sycophancy a bit).... I like it. Here’s my 30 second addition to it. Collapse replies: - 🌲🌲🌲 + And the plus and minus change the number of trees displayed as well as how much of the replies are displayed making a real causal link between the buttons and how they affect what is displayed.... I just asked ChatGPT and there are some decent ideas out there apparently: The discussion around how to handle relative times in user interfaces and communications is an interesting one.... - b_b...
