UpTrust tools for AI assistants

UpTrust runs an MCP server: a standard way for an AI assistant to use outside tools. Once you connect it in Claude, ChatGPT, Grok or Gemini, your assistant can check a source against the people you trust, find whose judgment to read on a topic, and look for help with a question. If you allow it, it can also run your events and group channels. Trust answers come from your own network on UpTrust, not from a global rating.

What the tools do

Each tool answers one kind of question. Your assistant picks the tool from what you ask, so you do not need to name it. Each page below says what comes back, gives example questions, and shows the exact description your assistant reads.

Check a source or a draft

Whether the people you trust rely on a source, a person or a list of options.

Find people and answers

Whose judgment to read, who can help with a question, and who to meet.

See across disagreement

What holds up with people who disagree, and which communities shape your view.

Get started

What you can ask, and introducing yourself to UpTrust.

Events

Find your events; create, change and cancel ones you host; invite and message guests.

Group channels

Read and post in the channels of groups you belong to.

Posts

Post on your feed, and edit your own posts outside channels.

Group members

Who is in the groups you belong to.

Connect in Claude

Needs a paid Claude plan. You also need an UpTrust account. The connector address is https://mcp.uptrusting.com/mcp

  1. Open Settings and find the Connectors section.
  2. Choose to add a custom connector.
  3. Paste the address and confirm.
  4. Sign in to UpTrust in the window that opens, and approve (see below).

This address serves all 38 tools. Grok and Gemini use it too, and so does Claude Code (see For developers).

Connect in ChatGPT

Needs a paid plan, and Developer mode is on the web rather than in the phone app. Bringing your introduction by paste works on any plan. The connector address is https://mcp.uptrusting.com/chatgpt

  1. Open Settings, then Connectors, then Advanced settings, and turn on Developer mode.
  2. Back in Connectors, choose Create.
  3. Name it UpTrust, paste the address, and set Authentication to OAuth.
  4. Sign in to UpTrust in the window that opens, and approve (see below).

This address serves 12 of the 38 tools: checking sources, finding people and answers, the communities, and your introduction. Events and group channels are not on it.

Connect in Grok

Needs a paid Grok plan. The connector address is https://mcp.uptrusting.com/mcp, added on Grok’s Connectors page.

  1. Open the Connectors page in Grok’s settings.
  2. Choose New Connector, then Custom.
  3. Paste the address and confirm.
  4. Sign in to UpTrust in the window that opens, and approve (see below).

Connect in Gemini

The Custom button shows only when Gemini is in English, which the Connectors link opens it in. Use a personal Google account: on a work account, its admin may have turned custom connectors off. The connector address is https://mcp.uptrusting.com/mcp, added on Gemini’s Connectors page. For the Gemini CLI, see For developers.

  1. Open the Connectors page in Gemini’s settings, on the web.
  2. Choose Custom, paste the address, and choose Next.
  3. Tick the box that accepts the risks, then choose Connect, then Agree and continue.
  4. Sign in to UpTrust in the window that opens, and approve (see below).

What signing in involves

When you add the connector, a browser window opens on UpTrust, where you sign in with your UpTrust account. UpTrust then shows what the assistant is asking to do, and nothing happens until you click Approve. There are no keys or codes to copy, and the assistant never sees your password.

Each permission on that screen covers a set of tools:

An assistant that later needs a permission you did not grant asks you again. To disconnect, open Settings, find Connected Agents, and click Revoke; see connected AI agents.

For developers

This is a standard remote MCP server over streamable HTTP, at https://mcp.uptrusting.com/mcp. Sign-in is OAuth 2.1 with PKCE. Every request, including tools/list, needs a bearer token. Without one the server answers 401 and points to its metadata at /.well-known/oauth-protected-resource, which names the authorization servers, UpTrust first. Clients register themselves with dynamic client registration, so there is no API key to ask for. Any client that runs this sign-in outside a browser page connects the same way.

Claude Code

Run this in a terminal:

claude mcp add --transport http uptrust https://mcp.uptrusting.com/mcp

Then type /mcp in Claude Code, choose uptrust, and sign in.

Gemini CLI

Add this to ~/.gemini/settings.json:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "uptrust": {
      "httpUrl": "https://mcp.uptrusting.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Then run /mcp auth uptrust in the CLI to sign in.

MCP Inspector

Run this in a terminal:

npx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector --transport http --server-url https://mcp.uptrusting.com/mcp

It opens in your browser. Turn on the server’s switch and sign in, then open Tools.

Without an UpTrust account

Connect to https://mcp.uptrusting.com/git instead. You sign in with GitHub, and the trust tools answer from the repositories you have starred. Events, channels and posting are not on it.

Limits

Each tool has a burst and an hourly limit per access token, and a daily limit per account. A call past a limit returns a tool error that names the limit. To see what the server can answer for an account, even a new one, call what_can_i_ask.

Privacy and support

  • Assistants get trust answers as orderings and coarse bands, never your raw trust scores, and never other members’ email addresses.
  • To match a question or topic, or to score text with Mirror, UpTrust may send that text to a third-party service provider for processing. Neither publishes anything.
  • There are daily limits on how much a connected assistant can ask for.
  • The full policy is the UpTrust privacy policy.
  • For help or to report a problem, email support@uptrusting.com.
