UpTrust SMS Notifications & Consent
Effective Date: May 10, 2026
This page describes how SMS (text message) notifications work on UpTrust: what we send, how you opt in, how to stop or get help, and the limits and costs that apply. By adding a phone number to your UpTrust account and verifying it, you agree to the terms on this page.
What we send
UpTrust sends one-way account notifications related to activity on your account. We do not send marketing, promotional, or solicitation messages. The categories of messages we may send include:
- One-time verification codes (login, phone verification, password reset)
- Notifications of activity directed at you: replies to your posts, mentions, reactions, direct messages, bridge requests, and group invites
- Event RSVPs, reminders, and updates for events you have opted into
- Security alerts (e.g. an attempt to add your number to a different account)
How you opt in
UpTrust never sends SMS to a number you have not explicitly provided. You opt in by entering your phone number on one of the two surfaces below and agreeing to the disclosure shown there. There are two opt-in surfaces:
- Account settings (signed in). Navigate to Settings → Phone Number → "Add Phone". Enter your phone number, receive a 6-digit verification code via SMS, and enter the code to confirm. Verification confirms both ownership of the number and consent to receive notifications.
- Event RSVP (publicly accessible per event). After you RSVP to a public event, enter your phone number to opt in to text updates for that event. This opts you in to event-related SMS only. Create an account to verify your number via one-time code and to manage SMS for other notification types in Settings.
Before you submit your number, the opt-in surface shows a short consent disclosure with links to this page, our Privacy Policy, and Terms of Use. For example, the account-settings surface reads:
By adding your phone number, you agree to receive account notifications from UpTrust at this number, including a verification code. Message frequency varies based on your activity. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to unsubscribe, HELP for help. See our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.
Sample messages you may receive
- Verification: "Your Uptrust verification code is: 482193. It expires in 10 minutes. Reply STOP to opt out."
- Reply notification: "alex replied to your post on Uptrust https://uptrusting.com/p/abc123"
- Direct message: "alex sent you a message on Uptrust https://uptrusting.com/dm/abc123"
- Event reminder: "You've been invited to Spring Mixer on Uptrust https://uptrusting.com/event/xyz"
- Batched notifications: "3 new notifications on Uptrust. View them at: https://uptrusting.com/inbox"
Stopping messages and getting help
You can stop messages at any time by:
- Replying STOP to any UpTrust SMS. You will receive one final confirmation message and no further SMS from UpTrust.
- Removing your phone number under Settings → Phone Number → "Remove", or disabling SMS for a notification type under Settings → Notifications.
For help, reply HELP to any UpTrust SMS or email support@uptrusting.com. Replying HELP will return: "UpTrust account notifications. For help visit https://uptrusting.com/sms-consent or email support@uptrusting.com. Reply STOP to opt out. Msg & data rates may apply."
Frequency and rates
Message frequency depends on your activity and the activity directed at you. Most users receive between 0 and 10 messages per day; UpTrust enforces a per-user daily cap to prevent runaway batches. Messages are batched when multiple notifications arrive in a short window. Standard message and data rates from your carrier may apply; UpTrust does not charge for SMS.
Carriers and sharing
SMS is delivered via Twilio, a third-party messaging provider. Phone numbers and message content are processed by Twilio solely to deliver your messages. We do not sell phone numbers or share them with marketers. See our Privacy Policy for details on data handling.
