inspired by Chick-fil-A screwing up their mission and then coming back around

I read this fast company article that brought me to tears friday. It’s behind a paywall, so you can read it when we’re in person.

Long story short Chick-fil-A is super mission oriented, which most people know. The mission was inspired by Christianity but in a way i super respect (the article goes into details which I felt inspired by)… then they lost their way with the whole gay marriage thing. According to the founder, The company should never be used as a platform for social, political, or religious narratives or positions. The corporate ethos was servant leadership.

this was instructive of

  1. how the mission oriented ness led them to do counterintuitive things like close on Sundays and only allow people to have one franchise, and turn down more applicants than Harvard

  2. How a company can lose its way (which it did when the new CEO in the early teens used the company to promote a political position on gay marriage which didn’t fit the purpose to glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us. To have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick-fil-A

  3. How to come back to the way… the CEO (grandson of founder) who said all the antigaymarriage stuff ended up saying it was a mistake, reaching out to the other side and just listening. And then kept on listening. You learn from those mistakes. If not you’re just a fool. he added that we have a responsibility here to keep the whole of the organization in mind, and it has to take precendence over the personal expression and opinion social issues

They shifted back to fight racism through acts of service and the company no longer donates to orgs with political agendas, anti-LGBTQ or otherwise: :donate exclusively to education and fighting homelessness and hunger”
